Question by Tommy: What is a diesel model train?
I don’t really understand what they are. Do they actually run on diesel?
Best answer:
Answer by Lionheart ®Most model trains run on electricity (dampened by a transformer) that is powered through the track to the wheels on the engine.
There are two basic kind of engines, steam and diesel, which, in the real world, burns coal for steam or diesel oil. Model trains come in both types; steam engines that replicate engines from the 1830′s through the 1940′s, and diesel engines from the 1930′s through today.
Here is link to one train manufacturer that shows what they have to offer today.
